About us

Mission statement

To provide a legacy of resources to inspire teachers to introduce marine education into their school.

Company details

The Moffatt Group Australia Pty Ltd, T/a Wet Paper, is owned by Bob and Paula Moffatt who after 50 years teaching and publishing decided to retire in 2023 at the age of 73.

So that their books could remain available for as long as possible after they pass on, they started a legacy project which has over 90 Ebooks in a section of this web site called books for free.  This legacy project provides for a "self funding kitty" for web costs funded from the section called books for sale.

People often ask how it all began last century, so Bob has documented what he was able to keep from his early work with the Science Teachers Association of Queensland and the Brisbane South Marine Studies Project in third section called Archival Publications.

The timeline at the top of the website is divided into 10 "eras" and contains newsletters from MESA, MTAQ, MTANSW and Wet Paper, information brochures and photographs of many of the original marine studies teachers in Australia from that era.

It has been a pleasure to be involved with all these wonderful colleagues many of whom have become our lifetime friends.

Publications and consultancy

Wet Paper once played a pivotal role in the development of marine education in Australia and the South Pacific publishing over 100 books, worksheets, study guides and teaching guides.

During this time the publishing house provided consultancy advice to Education Queensland, the Qld Board of Secondary School Studies, UNESCO, Gold Coast City Council, Department of Primary Industries WaterWise Queensland, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Sea World, Marine Safety Queensland as well as pro bono work for Surfrider Foundation and Marine Education Associations from around Australia.

It is hoped their legacy project will continue to foster a love of the sea and inspire students of the future to pursue careers in aquatic studies and marine science.

Australian made

Wet Paper exclusively printed and developed web-based materials in Australia using Brisbane and Gold Coast based printers.  They never printed overseas, and, although it could have been a lot cheaper for schools, they were proud to spent their money in this great country.
