My first wet paper book from December 1987 and it's not very good.  However it was a first attempt to see if the kids could handle the content. At this stage I had not done much navigation as my background was in marine biology, was not very good at maths at school and was made to feel dumb because I could not get the sums out.

So I felt for the kids who had a similar background and when Allistar Martin in 1981 from the Tasmanian Woodridge Marine Studies Centre (see pic to the left) showed me how he used to teach navigation at his Marine Centre at Woodbridge Tasmania, I was inspired.

In the mid 1980's I saw how Geoff Simkins from the Darling Point special school taugh his special school kids how to navigate on the old Manly ferry - MV Heritage.  (See pic to the left)

His kids would then teach others how to navigate around Moreton Bay including my year 10's from Benowa.

Then I met Ward Nicholas from Rochedale SHS  (see hands pic to the left),  who showed me other activities he found successful with his kids, and so the syllabus topic was born.

I'm going to write more soon on this (5trh August 2020) as current syllabus writers need to learn to CONSULT with the kids in the classroom to see how they can handle content and not sit in their ivory towers with their inflated egos not talking to anyone except looking at meaningless results from survery monkeys. Hmmmm !!! Guess I'm getting old.
