Project 1 WaterWise Gold Coast
Client
Gold Coast City Council - Gold Coast Water
Description of project
This project designed and implemented a education program for primary and secondary school children on the Gold Coast. A series of seven interactive lessons were developed and implemented by a well trained and supervised team of subcontracted teachers. Two textbooks were written for senior high school and an in-service program developed for secondary teachers to allow for easy implementation in Geography and Science subjects.
The project also developed an industry and community education program where two manuals of best practice were published for the hospitality and caravan industries. A format for school, community and residents was developed for National Water Week which featured poster and media competitions, shopping centre entertainment, residents awards and trade displays. A professional multi media presentation was developed for community groups as well as programs for staff training and gardeners workshops.
A series of brochures and display panels were also prepared to communicate the new water pricing policy adopted by the local authority in 1988.
The program won the 1988 Banksia Environmental Awards for excellence in Environmental Education and training.
This was a ten year project from 1991 to 2001.
